Tucson Technologist Launches Independent Write-In Campaign for Arizona’s 6th Congressional District

No donors, no party, no PACs — a public spending ledger, a four-plank platform, and a campaign deliberately kept under the federal registration threshold

TUCSON, Ariz. — July 4, 2026 — Michael Dorland, a Tucson technology professional with more than four decades of experience in computing and systems work, has launched an independent write-in campaign for Arizona’s 6th Congressional District in the November 3, 2026 general election. His nomination paperwork was filed with the Arizona Secretary of State on June 12, and his candidacy is active on the state’s Candidate Portal.

The campaign accepts no donations — from anyone. It is funded entirely out of the candidate’s own pocket, publishes a running public ledger of every dollar spent, and is deliberately structured to remain under the $5,000 threshold at which federal law requires campaign committee registration.

“I picked Independence Day on purpose,” Dorland said. “This campaign is independent of a party, independent of donors, and independent of the fear machine that runs most of American politics. The entire pitch is that I’ll tell you the truth, I’ll admit it when I’m wrong, and I won’t make things worse. The fact that that sounds unusual is most of what’s wrong.”

The campaign’s platform, published at votetucson.org, rests on four pillars — Honesty, Critical Thinking and Common Sense, Caring, and Don’t Make Things Worse — each mapped to a policy plank: anti-corruption reform including a congressional stock-trading ban; accountability for the artificial intelligence industry, informed by Dorland’s professional work in AI integration and technology governance; interstate and cross-border economic cooperation, anchored in the USMCA review now underway and its direct stakes for Arizona’s port-of-entry economy; and affordability, including a federal right to repair and what the campaign calls “the right to own what you buy.”

Dorland’s biography spans the district’s working life: nine years in restaurant kitchens, four years on retail floors, years as a field service technician driving between Tucson, Sierra Vista, Nogales, and Benson, small business ownership, and network operations work in the Washington, D.C. area. He has lived in Tucson for over two decades.

Because Dorland is a registered write-in candidate, his name will not be printed on the ballot. Voters in Arizona’s 6th District can vote for him by writing “Michael Dorland” on the write-in line for U.S. Representative and filling in the accompanying oval. Complete instructions, including verification of his official candidacy, are at votetucson.org.

The campaign publishes a weekly newsletter and expands one platform plank in depth each month between now and the election, beginning in July with border-state trade and the USMCA review.

About the campaign: Dorland for Congress is an independent write-in campaign for Arizona’s 6th Congressional District. It accepts no contributions, publishes its complete spending ledger, and operates under the slogan “At Least He’ll Admit It.” More at votetucson.org.
